For Milan’s first birthday, we created a bright and playful balloon setup that brought colour, personality and celebration into the venue. The design combined a personalised backdrop, colourful bunting, an organic balloon garland and a classic white high chair to create a beautiful setting for birthday photos and family memories.
A Bright and Playful First Birthday Theme
The styling featured a cheerful combination of light blue, red, yellow, white and olive green. These colours created a fun and energetic atmosphere while still feeling balanced within the light-filled venue.
Light blue formed the foundation of the colour palette, giving the display a soft and friendly appearance. Red and yellow introduced brighter accents, while olive green added depth and helped connect the different colours. White balloons and the neutral backdrop prevented the overall design from feeling too busy.
This colourful theme is a lovely choice for a first birthday because it feels joyful, age-appropriate and suitable for children and adults alike.
A Mixed-Style Balloon Garland
The balloon garland was created using a mixed-style arrangement, with printed balloons and clear balloons incorporated into the design.
Polka-dot printed balloons brought a playful detail to the arrangement and complemented the colourful birthday theme. Clear balloons added lightness and visual interest, allowing natural light from the venue to pass through the installation.
The use of different balloon sizes created an organic, layered appearance. Larger balloons established the main shape of the garland, while smaller balloons filled the spaces between them and introduced more colour throughout the arrangement.
Instead of forming a perfectly even border, the garland flowed naturally from the floor, along one side of the backdrop and across the top. This asymmetrical shape gave the display movement while leaving enough open space for Milan’s name and birthday message to remain visible.
A Personalised “Milan Is One” Backdrop
At the centre of the setup was a personalised arched backdrop featuring the words “Milan Is One!”
Each letter in Milan’s name was presented in a different colour, connecting the personalised message with the balloon palette. Colourful bunting was also added above the wording, introducing another playful birthday detail without overcrowding the backdrop.
Personalisation makes an event setup feel more meaningful. Rather than using a generic birthday background, the child’s name and milestone become part of the design. It also ensures the photographs clearly capture the reason for the celebration.
The neutral tone of the backdrop allowed the coloured letters, bunting and balloons to stand out clearly. It created a clean photo background while maintaining the bright and cheerful mood of the party.
A Beautiful First Birthday Photo Area
A white high chair was positioned in front of the personalised backdrop, creating a dedicated space for Milan’s birthday portraits and cake photos.
The high chair’s simple design worked naturally with the neutral backdrop and allowed the surrounding colours to remain the focus. It also provided a comfortable and practical place for the birthday child to sit while family and friends gathered for photographs.
A small white plinth was included beside the backdrop, providing space for a birthday cake, flowers or another decorative feature. Together, the high chair, plinth, personalised sign and balloon garland formed a complete and coordinated photo area.
